The whole of Trinity was engaged in the largest battle Tatooine had ever seen. Over twenty different armies massed in one area. That area was a small village with a big secret. Underneath the village lay the layer that Trinity slept in. Three-thousand men fighting under one banner – Trinity was the largest of the bands of mercenaries. They were on the defensive however, as every Hutt on the planet massed around them in response to the harassment Trinity was giving their caravans and palaces.
Seth placed the explosive device on the last corner of the entrance into Trinity’s underground base. He backed away and slid the detonator into his right pocket. The attack on the village had come as a surprise to him, so he wasn’t wearing his armor. Instead, he wore a black T-shirt and tan pants which were bloused around black combat boots. An X-1 rifle was slung over his shoulder with extra magazines of ammunition on his webbed belt. Seth turned around and jogged over to a sand hut. He entered it to find two of his soldiers firing their rifles out the windows at advancing mercenaries.
Seth grabbed his rifle and shouldered it. He aimed down the sights over the shoulder of one of the troopers and fired a small burst, taking down a mercenary who had activated a thermal detonator. The grenade fell and exploded, obliterating the few mercenaries who were foolish enough to be next to the dead man. Others caught on fire. One of the soldiers turned to greet Seth. He nodded, giving Seth a perfect view of his face as he was dressed similarly to Seth but with a long sleeve black shirt. “Seth! We’re scattered to hell and they won’t stop coming!”
“I know I know! I got the entrance wired to blow…” Seth was caught off by an ear shattering explosion. Seth turned and leaned out of the door, looking to the left side of the hut. The hut next to Seth’s took a thermal detonator and had not only exploded but caught on fire. Trinity troopers ran out screaming as their flesh burned down to the bone. Their arms flailed around and the screams cut into the hearts of every man under Trinity’s banner. They were all brothers in one way or another and when one died, they all felt it. Seth turned to face the other way just in time to catch five troopers sprinting across open ground between huts to get to the burning soldiers. A light repeater opened up on them, cutting them down. Seth motioned to some troopers kneeling behind a low wall. Three of them looked in his direction and ran to him.
Seth and the three soldiers ran out into the open and began dragging the bodies, some still burning, into the rear area where a field hospital was set up. A radio operator came to Seth, full armored in clone airborne gear. “Sir! We’ve got 2 Victories and a Venator circling the planet. They can evac within ten minutes!” Seth nodded to him, taking a look around as he spoke.
“Get it done! Put out the call to all Trinity troopers. Evac in ten! Bring all wounded and dead!”
“Roger that sir!” The radio operator began communicating with the three large ships orbiting the planet. Seth ran back to the three troopers who were dragging dead and wounded back to the rear. As he got to one and began helping him drag a half existing body, the trooper’s jaw exploded. Blood splashed over Seth’s face and as he looked, the trooper stared at him, fear and pain flooding his eyes. A gurgling sound came out of the deep hole which was now half his face. The trooper’s chest then ripped apart as blaster bolts tore into his flesh. When his body hit the ground, there was nothing left of threads of skin and bone.
Aiden, Seth’s son, watched as the trooper next to his father get ripped apart from his position inside the hut. He fired a few rounds into the large group of mercenaries advancing on them before turning to get his partner’s attention while reloading. “Hey we need to get back to the E.Z.!” The trooper nodded and began to stand up to leave to the hut. As his body was erecting itself, a blaster bolt flew through the window and smashed into the man’s head. The back of his head exploded against the wall. Aiden ducked below the windows, grabbed the trooper by his collar and dragged him out.
Half way to the rear area, a trooper ran to Aiden to help. A blaster bolt punched through his leg and he dropped with a grunt. Aiden let go of the dead soldier and picked up the wounded one, putting him on his shoulders. He then bent and began dragging the dead soldier again while carrying the wounded one on his shoulders. Aiden got both of the soldiers to the rear and began searching for more troopers. Most of them were already in the rear, waiting the evac ships. Aiden ran out, finding his father and ducking below the remains of a sand hut with him and two other troopers who wore full armor.
“Seth! We’re all ready for the evac. We’re waiting on you!” As he said this, the first of the three ships, a Victory-class Star Destroyer descended and landed about one-hundred yards behind the rear area. Troopers began hauling everything onto it. Before it even finished loading it’s maximum, the other Victory-class Star Destroyer descended and began taking on passengers and cargo. The Venator-class Star Destroyer was next, landing in front of the other two – farther away from the village. Most of the wounded were loaded onto it.
“Aiden, I’m not leaving this village. I’ll detonate the entrance and make sure they don’t get the tech. Take these two and get out of here with Trinity. It’s yours now, son. Take them to a planet where they can make something of themselves.”
Aiden was taken by surprise and nodded. He was taught to show no weakness, but in his last moments, Aiden gave his father a brief hug and then took the two soldiers to the Venator. As the three ships were lifting off, Aiden watched the village explode in a huge fire ball. Half of the mercenaries were engulfed in flames and the entrance to the base was sealed permanently. A tear ran down Aiden’s cheek, and he left for his private quarters.
Aiden emptied his pockets and stripped down. It was then that he noticed that his father had slipped a datapad into his pocket when they had embraced. Aiden picked it up, and with nothing but underwear on, began looking through it. It contained a bunch of tech that was first hand design. It was developed and was stored on the ships. Seth had known something like this would happen so he hid the armarments on the ships. Aiden would have to check the armories during their travels. First, he would make his rounds and visit all the wounded and healthy soldiers.
