Three ships exited hyperspace in a position that overlooked two worlds. One was a planet called Rutan, the other a moon called Senali. On the bridge of the largest ship, a Venator-class Star Destroyer, several men worked swiftly on consoles and terminals. A large holo-projector displayed images and charts on a wall in the middle which split the bridge in two. Several more men studied the images and charts and began writing on datapads and such. A call over the intercom went out and messages to the two sister ships which were Victory-class Star Destroyers. One of the Victories turned and entered hyperspace once more. The other two ships stayed.
Aiden stood aboard the Venator’s bridge looking at the images on the middle wall. Both planets were shown with charts of specification next to them. Both were suitable planets for his objective, which was to settle this army down and make something of themselves. Rutan was made up of rolling hills and wide plains. Senali was made up of water with a huge concrete and steel city built above it. On one hand, they would have plenty of food and defendable positions; on the other they’d have water crystals to power things and also an ability to conceal themselves.
”Colonel Conti, Colonel Shiring – get over here.” Aiden turned to two men leaning against the wall of the bridge talking to each other. They both looked Aiden’s way and erected themselves to step over beside him, one on each side. Aiden turned back to the console. ”I need opinions. Which one do you think we should set up H.Q. on? Both colonels studied the maps and specifications for a few minutes before speaking up.
“Sir, I think Rutan would be best. We can set up several outposts which could be easily defended.” Colonel Shiring stated, nodding his head when he finished as he looked upon the maps.
“I disagree. Defenses mean nothing when you don’t have power to turn the enemy to a stinking pile of shit. Senali is the way to go.” Colonel Conti turned to Aiden with hard, experienced eyes. Aiden didn’t return the gaze; his gaze stayed on the console. That didn’t help him much and he didn’t have time or the patience at this point to make a poll for the entire force. He was saved, suddenly, by one of the crewmen.
“Sir, I’m picking up strange readings from Senali!” The crewman turned his head slightly to project his voice further. It wasn’t needed but helped as Aiden could hear him just fine. Aiden left the console with the two Colonels still standing there and went over to the crewman. He looked over the crewman’s shoulder onto his terminal. The crewman was right – there were strange readings coming from Senali, in fact from a smaller yet still large city connected to the main city by a lone bridge. What was so strange about it was that they were human readings, meaning it was a human colony.
”Well, we just found out where we’re going.” Aiden erected his body and turned to the pilots of the star destroyer. ”Take us down in the center of that small city. Try to find a place where both the Venny and the Victy can land together.” Aiden got a swift reply and the crewmen began to work on landing the large ships. Aiden then turned to the two Colonels. ”Colonel Shiring, elements of your Legion are on the Victy, correct? I suggest you go to them. Prepare for a battle but hope it doesn’t come to that. Colonel Conti, get your Legion ready for battle as well. We may need them to para-drop into the city.”
“Yes, Sir!” Aiden got his reply and the two colonels turned and left the bridge. Shiring went to the Victory-class Star Destroyer to instruct his men on what they were going to do when they landed. Conti did the same with his men. Aiden stayed on the bridge and watched the descent into the atmosphere of Senali and watched as the human city grew closer and closer. When they reached five-thousand feet, he left he bridge and went to the cargo ramp. As he reached the ramp, he could feel the pressure of landing and then the release of the ships suspension which meant they were on solid ground. The ramp lowered and the doors slid open.
Aiden’s eyes grew wide as a young girl escorted by armored men stood just beyond the ramp. Aiden slowly walked out, making sure that his troops didn’t follow him out but stayed hidden on both sides of the doors. Aiden walked down the ramp and right up to the girl. She didn’t look a day over sixteen; her milky skin was slightly tanned and her long brown hair put up in a loose bun. Large hazell eyes stared at him coldly. Lush lips held a straight line as she sized him up, making it obvious that she was looking for weaknesses and strengths.
Aiden’s attire made it easy. He wore a black T-shirt which was slightly loose but clung to his body for the most part. Black and grey camouflage fatigues made up his pants and the pants legs were bloused inwardly at the end half way down Black combat boots, giving him a militaristic look. The black shirt was large enough to hang just over the web-belt at his waste which carried ammunition and grenades. A small sea breeze picked up his black hair, making it flow to his left slightly. Blue eyes stared back at the girl with almost the same lack of emotion that she showed. The girl’s appearance looked almost militaristic; she wore a brown tank top and grey fatigues for pants which just hung over black and grey boots. Aiden could almost make out the outline of a sports bra underneath the shirt as well.
“Who the hell are you?” The girl spat out sarcastically. Aiden didn’t flinched, still staring into her eyes. Her voice was sweet and Aiden could tell that she was trying to sound tough. Aiden would entertain her for now.
”My name’s Aiden. I come from Tatooine with an army of some three-thousand.” Her eyes widened, if possible, at this statement. The armed men behind her raised their odd looking weapons. They were black and long, holding a magazine and long barrel. It almost looking like Aiden’s X-1 except it was more solid and looked a lot more powerful. Aiden shouldered his X-1 and bent his knees a bit. ”I suggest you call them off… uh… what’s your name?”
The girl chuckled a bit, waving the armed men off. They lowered their rifles and turned to walk away. “My name is Jillian. I’m the leader of the Ashtok Security Forces.” Aiden lowered his rifle when the guards did and erected his legs, keeping them slightly apart. His eyes scanned the area as she spoke. When she was about to finish, his eyes went back to hers.
”Ashtok? Is that what this city is called? How’d humans even end up on this moon?” Jillian nodded and motioned for him to walk with her.
“This city is called Ashtok. The city next to us, which you undoubtedly saw on your way down is called Mettok. The difference is, Ashtok is human, Mettok is Senalian. We humans didn’t arrive here until about fifty years ago. My family led the first human colonists here and began the leaders. So it’s no surprise I’m in this position.” She rounded a corner and Aiden followed.
”Are these Senalians friendly or shaky?” She seemed to be enjoying his questions.
“The Senalians are friendly enough. We help them out with their battles and such and in return they teach us how to live in such an unwelcoming environment.”
”Battles? Tell me I did not just stumble into a war.” Her face went from cold to almost dismayed and dark.
“Afraid so. Senali is the moon of Rutan. Rutanians and Senalians are so familiar that you can only tell the difference by their skin color. Rutanian skin is blue, Senali is green. They’ve been warring for about a thousand years now.” She paused, visibly uncomfortable with the subject. “We’ve been helping them fight the war ever since we got here.”
Aiden’s gaze turned from her to Mettok. It looked so graceful that one would hardly believe that a war was raging in it. He could hear the sounds of battle, but there was no smoke or anything that gave a hint of battle. ”Sounds like you’ve seen a lot for such a young kid.” His gaze turned back to her.
“I’m NOT a kid! I’m sixteen I’ve seen more death and destruction in my life than you’ll ever see!” Her face flushed red and she stopped, turning to Aiden and making threatening movements toward him. He could tell that she was softer than she let on by her movements.
”If you’re sixteen, you’re a kid – regardless of what you’ve seen. I’m seventeen and I’ve seen hundreds of my brothers torn to shreds and my father getting blown up. There’s just one difference between us and that’s I don’t expect pity from anyone!” His words cut deep and he could tell. Jillian was visibly shaken, her large brown eyes quivering and her body shrinking. ”If you’re in the middle of a war, why are you sitting back at home?”
Her body shrunk more, becoming more and more the feminine she was. Her eyes were glazed over, tearing up yet not crying yet. “We’re regrouping for a major operation. I can’t tell you anymore.”
”The hell you can’t! I have two-thousand troops on stand-by right now. I’m pretty sure we can help in some way.” Aiden’s version of a peace offering for his earlier blow up. She caught it, and was beginning to understand the surface elements of how he ran – like his father.
“Well, I guess you can. My Dad will have to brief you on it and you’ll only have twenty-four hours to get ready.” She crossed her arms around her thin stomach, covering up her figure. Aiden looked away towards the two large ships.
”Take me to the briefing then. We’ll be ready by morning.” He smirked and looked back her. The smirk seemed to lighten the mood a bit as her eyes flashed with the excitement that she was too prideful to show.
